European Investment Bank - Foreign Exchange Systems Replacement

Challenge
A top-tier European investment bank on Wall Street wanted to replace all their existing Foreign Exchange (FX) trading systems across their global offices, with a uniform and enhanced global trading system. This was to be a secure and highly available FX trading system with the ability to process trades around the clock and globally across their worldwide offices. The challenges they faced stemmed from their lack of know-how to globally manage the design, development, testing, and rollout efforts of this new system.

Tasks and Approach
We put a small and dedicated team of business and technology experts, to provide an initial assessment of the requirements of the FX traders, salespersons, and trade processing back office systems in the first four weeks. Thereafter we set up a global program office in place to initiate the adoption of best practice techniques for the design, data analysis, data modeling, and QA needed in the effort. We worked with the client’s I/T group and external vendor consultants to create consolidated project plans with milestones to monitor the entire effort. Finally, we created user documentation for the new system, and administered training sessions to the user groups, as part of the production rollouts.

Results
With the new trading system in place and use, in the US alone, the client achieved an increase in execution of trades by nearly 50%. Globally the increase was more than 30%. Costs associated with troubleshooting and maintenance of the system, decreased by 20% in the first year alone.
